MWENEZI – Mental health problems continue to spiral in Zimbabwe due to lack of drugs and a failing care system as no week passes without reports of one gruesome murder or another.
Two weeks ago, Muzondiwa Venganai (68) of Chongoveza Village under Chief Maranda allegedly struck and killed his brother Cephas Ngwenya who was trying to tie his hands and legs because he was destroying kitchen utensils at home.
The incident happened on March 26, 2022.
Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the matter to Two Nations.
Sources said on March 25,2022 Venganai fell ill and he was taken to Dinhe Clinic. He was tested for cerebral malaria and results were negative. Back home the family started looking for traditional ways of curing him
The next day Netsai Shumba saw Venganai destroying kitchen utensils, tried to stop him but he assaulted her heavily. She reported the matter to Ngwenya and when the latter tried to intervene, he was struck three times on the head with a log and he fell unconscious.
Ngwenya was rushed to Dinhe Clinic but died on his way to Neshuro Hospital where he had been referred to.
