Rufaro High scoops silver at national softball competitions

MASVINGO-Rufaro High School U20 girls’ softball team scooped silver at the national school competitions held at Jameson High in Kadoma last week. 
The school lost 12-1 to Chinhoyi High in the final match. 
School head Jameson Shumbanhete confirmed the development in a telephone interview with The Mirror. 
‘’We are very excited as Rufaro High School. The national competition games are tough, but our girls played well,’’ said Shumbanhete.
Nineteen schools participated in the competitions. Rufaro was put in group D with Nkulumane, Nyamauru, Roosevelt and Nyava high schools and came atop the group. 
Rufaro defeated Harare Girls High School 5-3 in the quarter-final and walloped another Masvingo side, Zimuto High, 9-0 in the semifinals. Rufaro played against Chinhoyi High in the national final and lost 12-1. 
Softball is similar to baseball. It was introduced in 1887 by George Hancock in Chicago, United States of America (USA). A softball team has ten players.
The Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in a Zimbabwe-run school is receiving its first Secretary’s Merit Award on July 22, 2023, after being adjudged the best school in Masvingo Province in 2020. 
The school was founded in 1987 and is in the Chatsworth area of Gutu.
