Man struck with an axe over girlfriend

ZVISHAVANE– Magistrate Evia Matura has denied two Zvishavane men bail who allegedly struck an imbiber with an axe and machete for talking to their girlfriend.
Brighton Sasa (19) and Jonathan Dendera (23) of Oreti Compound, Zvishavane allegedly struck Gaylord Nhokodi (27) with an axe and a machete on his head.
Circumstances are that on February 4, 2023, around 5 am, Nhokodi was buying a cigarette at Joyleen’s tuckshop when Sasa and Dendera approached and quizzed him as to why he was talking with their girlfriend.
A misunderstanding ensued and Sasa produced an axe while Dendera produced a machete.
It is alleged that the duo struck Nhokodi with the weapons on the head and Dendera tripped him to the ground when he tried to escape and continued to assault him all over the body.
Imbibers at the scene restrained the two and Nhokodi escaped and filed a Police report. Police recovered the axe and machete at the scene.
