Gwanda community radio station goes live

HARARE/GWANDA – Gwanda became the fifth town in Zimbabwe to have a community radio station when Ntepe Manama Community Radio Station NMCR went live on Thursday.
The radio station will mainly broadcast in Sotho.
This was confirmed by Engineer Adonis Mushosho, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Transmedia at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show on Friday.
NMCR Programmes Officer Siphathisiwe Ncube also confirmed the development saying the radio has brought excitement amongst communities at Manama and surrounding areas who have for long been forced to listen to foreign radio stations.
“It’s a dream come true, we have waited since 2009 and there is excitement in the community that they will now be able to tell and listen to their own stories on radio.
“We have passionate community reporters who have been using their own resources to attend trainings and they are ready to go on air. We still need more reporters and presenters so that we have enough content for the station,” said Ncube
NMCR is on Frequency Modulation on the 97.0 MHz band and will for now broadcast for 18 hours from 6am to 12 midnight.
