Chivhu man (77) jailed 12 years for raping niece

CHIKOMBA-Chivhu Magistrate Fadzai Mtombeni has sentenced a 77-year-old man to 12 years in prison for raping his 14-year-old niece.
Cleopas Tirivatatu Chimombe (77) of Zhakata Village, Headman Mutengwa, will serve eight years in jail.
He was convicted of raping the minor (name withheld) on two incidents sometime in 2022.
Chimombe denied the charge and told the court that his age is advanced and his manhood could not erect.
Circumstances are that on an unknown date in 2022, Chimombe went to a minor sleeping in the dining room and he raped her once.
He again raped her in a kitchen on the next day and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
The complainant then allegedly told her grandmother about the two rape incidents and the former allegedly refused to report the matter.
The minor then told Joshua Dembetembe, a Police officer about the rape ordeal leading to Chimombe’s arrest.
A medical examination report was produced as evidence in court.
