Beitbridge man caged 12 yrs for impregnating a Gr5 pupil

BEITBRIDGE-A 22-year-old Beitbridge man was last week slapped with an effective 12-year-jail term by Regional Magistrate Innocent Depura for raping and impregnating a Grade 5 pupil at Limpopo Primary School. The court heard that Polite Mbedzi (22) of Billie Village under Chief Chitaudzi raped and impregnated a girl from Malibeng Village in Tuli Beitbridge.
Prosecutor Claude Karinga told the court that at a date unknown to the court but between January to April 2022, Mbedzi visited his friend who is brother to the girl and put up at his place. During the night Mbedzi is said to have sneaked out of the room and went to the girl’s bedroom.
He gained entry through the window and awakened the complainant threatening her with knife not to scream. Mbedzi then removed the girl’s skirt and raped her. He then continued to rape the girl several times on different occasions. On one occasion the girl told him that she had stomach pains and he suspected that she was pregnant and promised to give her medicine to terminate the pregnancy.
Some time in June, Mbedzi gave the girl herbs in a 500ml plastic container. On July 30, 2022 she the drank the herbs and fell sick. She was taken to Swereki Clinic where she was treated but later referred to Gwanda Hospital where she was examined.
