Beitbridge crystal meth supplier remanded in custody

MASVINGO –Magistrate Rethagtcetsi Silaigwana has postponed the trial of alleged Beitbridge drug supplier Monica Mambengu to April 4, 2023 because the presiding Magistrate Elizabeth Hanzi is ill.
Mambengu is represented by Martin Mureri of Matutu, Mureri Legal Practitioners.
She was arrested by Police details on March 10, 2023 after a tip off as she disembarked from a taxi near Flamboyant Hotel. Police recovered 58.5 grams of crystal meth.
Mambengu has been in remand prison for 11 days and it is understood that she was in Masvingo to supply the drug to some local dealers.
Meanwhile the bail hearing of Masvingo crystal meth peddler Mary Chisi popularly known as Mai Shantel will be heard on Thursday at the High Court in Masvingo.
Her lawyer Omen Mafa of Mutendi, Mudisi and Shumba Legal Practitioners confirmed the development to The Mirror.
He said they approached the High Court on Friday last week after Magistrate Hanzi denied Chisi bail and did not give any reasons.
Mai Shantel was arrested by Police on March 9, 2023 at her residence at House number 2548/9 Mushandike Drive, Majange around 5 pm after a tip off from an anti-drugs organisation which preferred to remain anonymous.
Police recovered 19 grams of crystal meth in 42 sachets with a street value of US$300 from her bedroom.
Chisi has been in remand prison for 12 days.
