Beitbridge bribe cops to spend third night in cells

BEITBRIDGE – Beitbridge Resident Magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba has deferred bail ruling on 18 Police, Army, Central Intelligence and officials from other Government Departments arrested for receiving bribe to tomorrow after hearing arguments from both State and Defense lawyer this afternoon.

The 18 were arrested on Saturday morning allegedly after receiving R2 000 bribe from Sable Class Bus Crew at a roadblock near Beitbridge. Today will be their third night in the cells.The State is opposing bail for fear that the accused may interfere with investigations.

The defense lawyer Muchihwande Forbes Sithole of Chauke and Associates suggested bail of RTGS$5 000 considering that the accused are civil servants who are poorly remunerated.https://twonations.co.zw
