MASVINGO It’s one of the most fulfilling way of celebrating 70 years of life for a Christian.

Rabson Ziso, a devout United Methodist Church (UMC) member commemorated his birthday with the less privileged at Mucheke Old People’s Home and then children at Alpha Cottages in Masvingo.

He did it with dedication.

He embarked on a fun run on January 14, 2023 to appeal for donations for the two homes. The fun run dubbed; Celebrate with Rabson and support Masvingo Communities was 10 km from Rhodhene Swimming Pool to the 10km peg along the Masvingo-Harare Highway.

And indeed the fun run was well supported. He donated 50 broiler chicks and the full feed to Mucheke Old People’s Home.

Alice Mashinge, a Social Services Officer at Masvingo City Council hailed the donation and urged the Home not to slaughter the chickens for the home’s kitchen but to start an income generating project where the home will sell chickens.

“You should grow this project until you become a source of chicken in the city. Don’t rush to slaughter the chickens for your domestic use until the project is big,” said Mashinge.

Ziso also donated an assortment of groceries which Mashinge said was handy because in January, the two homes which depend on residents’ goodwill got little or nothing.

Ziso was born on January 10 ,1953.

“I am grateful to God for granting me long life and I am giving back to the community as a way of expressing my gratitude. My hope is to make this an annual event”, said Ziso

“We are grateful for the donation, it goes a long way in enhancing our livelihoods and we will work wholeheartedly to ensure that the project is ongoing,” said Guy Steyn, one of the inmates at Mucheke Old People’s Home

Ziso said he was also going to donate to Matthew Rusike Children’s Home in Shurugwi.
